about » bio

German-born Katrin Schnabl honed her skills under Jil Sander, Carolina Herrera and Robert Danes. She was owner and principal designer of Miche Kimsa for eight seasons before branching out with her signature collection in 2002. She graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in Fashion Design from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology.

Formal recognition from the fashion industry followed, when she was selected as finalist in Sportswear and Eveningwear in the Gen Art Styles 2000 international competition. She was a featured designer in both Gen Art Fresh Faces 2004 Chicago, the 8 on a Plate fashion presentation at the Chicago Cultural Center in October 2005, and most recently, Macy's CHIC: Designers of Chicago runway show in Millenium Park's Chase Promenade show.

She has designed extensively for dance and performance artists, such as Shania Twain, Trisha Brown, Doug Elkins, John Jasperse and many others. Her wide experience in choreographic costuming is distilled subtly in the play of movement and space evident in her work.

She is currently on faculty in the fashion department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, following a prior teaching engagement at Parsons School of Design, NYC.
